Review: All For A Vision - Reasons And Devices

Written By Unknown on Monday, January 2, 2012 | 3:05 AM

All For A Vision was formed in mid 2011 and the 4 piece band have wasted no time in coming out with their EP titled, ‘Reasons and Devices’.

Drawing their influences from artsts such as Pendulum, Delphic, All Time Low and Basshunter, the band based in Hong Kong have come together syncing the sounds of synthesized, electronic vibes with rock.

With some brilliant solos fusing into the electronic beats and sounds, the tracks of the album induce the listener into various mental states ranging from hope to hopelessness, love, or the lack of it and the feelings of control and disambiguation reflecting the messages that are echoed in the lyrics. The shift between the male and female vocals makes the tracks more interesting to listen to as well.

The band reminds me of artists such as Pendulum and Nine Inch Nails with a younger, fresher sound. Finding the right amount of electronic and rock to combine is not an easy job to do, but with ‘Reasons and Devices’ it seems like All For A Vision write their music almost effortlessly, and they seem to know hot to get it right.

The members of the band include Fortuna Hadley (Guitar, Vocals) , Austen Julien (Bass and vocals), MoDeKO (DJ & Synthesizer), Daniel (Drums and percussion) under the record label, The Bauhinian Collective. The EP was released on the 5th of December, 2011.

I believe that if you’ve begun singing along to the songs of an album, then clearly the artist has had an impact on you, either because the tracks are horrible yet annoyingly catchy, or because the music is just so good it gets to you. Listening to ‘Reasons and Devices’, for the second time around, I found myself singing along to the tracks, for the latter reason, of course. I liked all the songs, including the acoustic ’1056 Arterial’ and ‘New Age Anthem’ with its edgy sound and cool solo on the bass.

If there is any criticism that I would have about the album, it is simply that it deserves to have had a better recording which in turn would have made the music top notch. Along with that the band may need to work a bit more on the clarity of the screams. Nevertheless I do feel that the sounds of All For A Vision will appeal to anyone with a versatile taste in music.
