Exclusive: The Making of "Meet In The Middle" by The City Calls

Written By Unknown on Saturday, March 3, 2012 | 2:01 AM

The City Calls released the video for their latest single, ‘Meet In The Middle' on the 29th of February.  This is the second single, from their album, 'A Spark To Ignite.' BandBucket brings you an exclusive 'Making Of' video featuring the behind the scenes footage .

Directed by Josh Partridge the video is simple enough, and interesting enough to compliment the song’s catchy tune which is hard to get of your head. The melody of the vocals and the rhythm and vibe of the drums, with the energy of the guitars make it a great song to listen to, while watching the boys perform adds more life to their music.

Partridge has definitely done a good job, in my opinion. He has successfully compiled a video that would enhance the experience of listening to the song.

The five-piece band from Southampton, UK , first came into the music scene with their self-released single, 'Take Me Home (Kiss & Tell)'. This was followed by their fast-growing recognition and they are nowsigned to I Am Mighty Records, under which they released their first mini-album named, ‘A Spark To Ignite' last August.

Haven’t seen the video yet? You can check it out here:

Fronted by Lucas Hardy with a crystal-clear voice, Scott Perry and Darren Ledwich cover the guitars, while Chris Aldridge is on the bass, and Josh Plummer works with the drums. I believe that this band perfectly compliments each other in terms of harmony, rhythm and energy.

Bandbucket (BB) caught up with Lucas (LH)  to know more about how the video came about:

BB: How did you come across Josh (Partridge)?

LH: It was our label that brought Josh in to work with us. Whilst we were discussing and writing up concept ideas, our label was in talks with Josh. We checked out his earlier work and we were instantly impressed. So it was only natural to go ahead and work with him.

BB: How did the idea for the video come about? And how and why was this particular location chosen?

LH: A few ideas were talked about, some more feasible than others with locations and time. Our last video for 'Truth or Dare' we had the whole thing focus on performance based shots so we wanted to do something a little different. In the end we decided to have the video shot in one room. I came up with this idea of having the video start small and build up into a full performance, but at the same there would be someone playing in the background right behind this relaxed seating formation. Josh worked really hard on finding a location and we were really happy with were we shot the video. It was a dark room with a stage already set up for our gear and with it being relatively dark, the lighting worked really well and gave us a warm tone to the shots.

BB: Did you enjoy the making of 'Meet in the Middle'? What was the toughest part?

LH: We all really enjoyed the video shoot. When all the gear was set up and the staging lights were turned out we just felt ready to make this an awesome video. First of, the easiest part was sitting down for the beginning shots, sitting down isn't too hard. The whole experience was very enjoyable and relaxed. Josh is very talented at what he does so there wasn't many times we felt something was tough. Any excuse to perform and work on something for the band is going to be a fun experience. If I had to say anything though, packing down to go home was the toughest part, we wanted to hang out there all day.

BB: With your growing popularity, what can fans expect from you in the near future?

LH: The big plan is to hit the road for longer this year too play as many cities as possible. We hit the road this February, back out in April and we're already planning tours after that. That's the solid plan, we'd also love to work on a new video, new music and anything else we can think of! Right now though, it's all about 'A Spark To Ignite' and showing it to as many people as possible.
