Interview : Dustin Wallace | With The Punches

Written By Unknown on Monday, March 5, 2012 | 10:36 PM

Pop-punk has been beating with a heart of it’s own for over two decades now, since bands such as The Offspring, and Blink 182 created waves in the punk scene. Several great bands have come and gone, and made their mark. One of the latest additions to pop-punk, With The Punches, came about back in 2009, and have been relentlessly working their way up. Their music and spirit is simply hard to ignore. With two EPs down and their first full-length on the way, Bandbucket ( BB ) caught up with Dustin Jhon Wallace ( D ) to know more about their current and future plans.

(BB) To begin with, please let us know who is going to fill the   answers    for the interview, and what is your role in the band?

( D ) My name is Dustin and I play guitar in With The Punches

(BB) Can you also let us know each members’ role in the band?

(D) Jesse sings, Shane plays drums, Vinny plays guitar and sings, and Mike plays bass

(BB) You recently started recording your full length “Seams & Stitches” , how is it going on so far?

(D) Great, we're recording with Kevin Kumetz at The Barber Shop Studios (http://www.thebarbershopstudios.com) in Hopatcong, NJ and I really couldn't be happier with how the songs are turning out. Most of the instrument stuff is done now and we are focusing on vocals.

We are currently finishing up the recording of our debut full length “Seams & Stitches” out June 19th on Doghouse Records. Our Instagram account is brand new, lets get friendly! (Taken with instagram)

(BB) What can you tell us about the upcoming full length, how does it compare to your previous EP?

( D ) I think the new record seems like a fairly logical progression from the first two EP's, we are definitely trying to expand on the stuff we've done in the past. The last EP in particular was written at a really tough time for us as a band and personally, so now having cleared all that up and really enjoy writing songs, we were able to take the time to make sure that we were all really happy with what we were coming up with.

( BB ) Last year you got signed to Doghouse Records. How are things working out with the company?

( D ) Doghouse and all the staff have been really great to us, it's cool working with a company who say's "We believe in what you do, and our goal is to help you do that on a larger scale" and then follows up by doing the work to make that a reality. It's definitely a big shift from the last three years where we have done everything on our own.

(BB) Can we expect any music videos?

( D) We've all talked about it, and would love to do a video at some point, I suppose we'll look a little further into it once we have the record done and heading for manufacturing. Right now we are just taking our time recording and making sure everything is perfect.

( BB )You have gained a huge amount of fans in a short time, how do you feel about it?

( D ) Have we? LOL I dunno, it's sort of weird to me now that there are kids listening to our music that I've never talked to because for so long it felt like we knew everyone who liked our band. As far as my personal feelings on the subject, it's awesome, that's why we got in this, it rules meeting someone new and talking to them and hearing stuff like "I was going through a tough time and your music helped me", that's about all I can ask for in life.

(BB) How was it like playing with Mayday Parade in Japan last year?

( D ) Incredible, best two weeks of my life, oddly enough Jesse and I went and hung out with Mayday the other night because they played a show in the town we live in, and that was the first time we'd seen each other since Japan. The Mayday guys treated us like family on that tour and are just really great people and a great band. It was cool walking into that situation with Mayday, Anarbor, and The Summer Set (who are all amazing) and feeling instantly welcomed by people who had probably never heard of us before.

(BB) In reference to the last question, do you have plans to play in Japan this year?

( D ) Nothing solid yet, we would absolutely love to go back, Masa and everyone from Kick Rock Invasion (our label in Japan) took great care of us and made it a lot of fun. The shows were incredible and the people we met were so awesome.

(BB) What's next for you?

( D ) Well, in the most immediate terms I suppose, we're back in the studio tomorrow to continue working on vocals for the record. Once that's done we have a few shows lined up around the northeast and once the record is released, hopefully we'll get out on some great tours and get back to playing shows every night, which I can't wait for.
