This June some good releases from new comers and old timers including 'Challenger', Memphis May Fire’s (MMF) latest LP that came out on June 26th under Rise Records. In the first week of its release the album landed at #16 on the Billboard's Top 20's list, # 3 on the Top Hard Music and the Indie Charts as well.
With or without their place in the charts, in my opinion, MMF have conintuously proven themselves in the music scene and their new album is not one to disappoint. What makes it more interesting is the number of collaborations it includes, with guest appearances from Sleeping with Sirens' Kellin Quinn and Asking Alexandria's Danny Worsnop.
'Challenger' is a great album to get you pumped up. The intro, 'Without Walls' is like an anthem and a perfect buildup to the rest of the album. 'Prove me Right' and 'Generation Hate 'are personal favourites with their catchy choruses, as is 'Vessels', an instrumental, resonating the passion in the music created by MMF. Front man Matty Mullins explains, “Challenger is a crystal clear representation of our growth as a band. It's heavier than anything we've done before & packed full of the most honest & transparent lyrics I've ever written." And you can feel this, in the music and the lyrics covering the themes of love, life, regret and even groupies.
There were a few tracks that came off as plain to me, such as 'Miles Away' and 'Jezebel' ,however the collaborations were well done, such as the incorporation of Quinn's voice for the former song.
The voice of the band has gotten more confident and this album is not one to be sidelined.
MMF signed to Rise Records last year after a string of successes with their previous releases, including the release of 'Between the Lies' and having their song, 'Ghost in The Mirror,' being featured for the soundtrack of Saw VI.
Currently the band from Dallas, Texas, USA are touring on the 2012 Vans Warped Tour, and joining them is their newest member, Anthony Sepe on the guitar. MMF has seen the inflow and outflow of several members but they have come out with no qualms in exploring their tastes and talents. It is this confidence and uninhibited willingness to push themselves that has won them wide acclaim.
